Saudade is a collectable chocolate brand designed to provide an experience of nostalgia and anticipation. The word Saudade is a Portuguese word that could be translated to nostalgia.
This brand was inspired by a personal childhood memory of visiting a coffee shop which had a vending machine that allocated you a number that corresponded to a random chocolate. The packaging is a reflection of this memory with the design resembling parts of the coffee shop building. In addition, the chocolate found inside can be one of four sizes paying homage to the randomness of the vending machine numbers.
To emulate the feeling of anticipation within the packaging, Saudade has four layers of boxes within. It reflects the journey of travelling to the coffee shop, inserting money into the vending machine, getting a number ticket and finally finding out what chocolate you will receive.
Saudade boxes can have four differently sized chocolates inside, from small to large, relating it back to the memory. The chocolate wrapper consists of four differing pattern designs depending on size, which are inspired by traditional Portuguese blue tiles, particularly found in Porto, where the coffee shop is located.
